Week 3 Games of the Week Previews & Picks

After a great week two of games, we are back with three more games that catch our eyes here in week three.

Allen Park at Woodhaven

After a thrilling 20-19 overtime victory for the Allen Park Jaguars over the Southgate Titans last week the Jaguars are traveling to Woodhaven to take on the Woodhaven Warriors. The Warriors weren’t without excitement in their game, as it took them a late touchdown and a last-second stop on defense to come away with the victory 24-21 over Trenton.

For the Woodhaven Warriors the early story has been the play of Freshman Quarterback Preston Scheffler. On the season Scheffler has thrown for 255 yards and four touchdowns en route to Woodhaven’s first 2-0 start since 2022. Scheffler isn’t the only reason Woodhaven is off to a 2-0 start; players like Mo Tyler, Isaiah Ibrahim, and Nick Harget have also played a big part in the team’s early success.

The Allen Park Jaguars enter this one looking for their second straight win over Woodhaven and only their second win over them dating back to the end of the 2018 season. Looking to get them that second straight win over Woodhaven is Junior Quarterback Ben Klos, who through two games has thrown for 330 yards and four touchdowns; so, while the Quarterback position is about even, Klos is the more veteran presence on the field. Connor Brown and Weston Glei are making names for themselves on offense. Brown has been the Jaguar’s main Running Back, as he has carried the ball 22 times for 59 yards and a touchdown. Glei has been the main target of Klos, pulling in eight of his ten targets for 111 yards and two touchdowns.

Will Woodhaven find a way to keep dominating the Jaguars, or can the Jaguars make it two in a row over Woodhaven?

Trenton at Lincoln Park

It’s a battle between a 2-0 team and a 0-2 team. You may think you know who’s who, but you will be shocked when I tell you you’re wrong. It is the Lincoln Park Railsplitters that are 2-0, and it’s Trenton that is 0-2. The last time the Railspiltters were 2-0 was back in 2017, and the last time they started a season 3-0, you have to go back to 1998. For the Trenton Trojans, the last time they started a season 0-2 was 2014, and the last time they opened 0-3, you have to go back to 2012 so history could be made in this game.

The Trenton Trojans are just two plays away from being 2-0, so this is a game that they feel will finally go their way. In week one, they fell to Southgate late, and while they had their chances against Woodhaven, they just couldn’t close it out. The Trojans 0-2 does have a bright side as Mr. Do-It-All Ashton Rooney has been phenomenal for them. Rooney has amassed 471 of the team’s 925 offensive yards. 378 of those yards and three touchdowns have come as the team’s primary rusher.

For the Lincoln Park Railsplitters they have turned the reins of the offense over to Sophomore Corey Williams. Under center Williams has passed for 223 yards and four touchdowns. Lincoln Park has weapons on offense and might be a sneaky team this year with Javion Cornett-Tillman, Brandon Gray, and Jamir King. King and Cornett-Tillman have come up big for the Railsplitters as King has totaled 196 yards and three touchdowns on 15 carries, which is good for 13 yards a carry, and Cornett-Tillman has 92 receiving yards and two touchdowns on three receptions. The defense has been another story for this Railsplitters team, as the whole defensive unit has been flying around. On defense, they are led by Logan Ferrell and Sean Bailey. The two have combined for 29 tackles, two Sacks, an interception, and two caused fumbles.

Lincoln Park is looking for revenge for their loss to Trenton one year ago, while Trenton looks toward a must-win game that could decide how the rest of the season plays out.

Harper Woods at Detroit Catholic Central- Game of the Week

Defending State Title winner, the Harper Woods Pioneers are taking their 1-1 record into Novi as they face off with perennial powerhouse the Detroit Catholic Central Shamrocks, who have started the season 2-0.

The Detroit Catholic Central Shamrocks are coming off of two impressive wins over Dearborn and Toledo Catholic Central. Senior Running Back Jaden Pydyn has been the main catalyst on offense for the Shamrocks, as he has carried the ball 33 times in two games for 247 yards and six touchdowns. While it has been the Pydyn show on offense, Skyler Hunter is the group’s starting quarterback. On defense, Hunter Stokes and Jack McHugh have been big-time playmakers for the Shamrocks.

It has been up and down for the Pioneers of Harper Woods. In week one, they looked like the team that won the State Title; however, in week two, not so much. However, they returned three key offensive players from the State Championship-winning team: Quarterback Nate Rocheleau, Wide Receiver Dakota Guerrant, and Running Back Donald Adams. For Rocheleau, he has passed for 595 yards and four touchdowns. The Pioneers need all three guys to play their best to upset Catholic Central.

Will Catholic Central’s high-powered offense make it three in a row for the Shamrocks, or will the young talent of Harper Woods be enough to shock the state and the Shamrocks?
