We are back with Week Five of the high school football season. Below are the games that catch our eye this week.
Carlson at Southgate
The two Downriver league foes meet for the 18th time, this week in a series led by Carlson 9-8. Last year’s meeting went to Carlson as they won 43-7. Will this year be more of the same by the Marauders of Carlson, or will the Titans of Southgate come out on top to even the series?
The Carlson Marauders enter this game undefeated but will most likely be missing MVP front Izaiah Wright for a third straight game. However, that hasn’t been an issue for these Marauders as Junior Avery Ortiz has filled the shoes of Wright perfectly. In relief of Wright, Ortiz has tallied 180 yards and four touchdowns. While missing Wright is a blow to the Marauders, their Quarterback, Joe Krolak, has been guiding their offense without loss and has combined for ten touchdowns in the year. In the win last week, Krolak passed for 128 yards and a touchdown and ran for another 65 yards and a touchdown.
The Titans of Southgate enter this one sitting at a record of 3-1. While the Titans may not be undefeated, they have been in every game thanks to their three top players, Jackson Sage, Thomas Laskowski, and Connor Ensign. While Laskowski and Ensign made the MVP list a week ago, it is nothing against Sage. Now in his third year as the starting Quarterback for this Southgate team, he is doing it with both his arm and legs. You never know what the Junior will do with the ball, which makes him so dangerous.
Will the Marauders take a two-game lead in this series, or will the Titans tie it up at nine each?

Riverview at Flat Rock- Game of the Week
A big-time rivalry game is going down in the Huron League as Riverview heads to Flat Rock, and both teams enter this one undefeated at 4-0. Last year, Riverview handed Flat Rock their first loss of the season 36-34, so Flat Rock will look to repay the favor this year.
The Riverview Pirates enter this one looking to repeat as league champs, with only Flat Rock standing in their way. The Pirates have always been known as a team that loves to run the ball, and that is no different this year. They use three guys in their backfield, and you never know who has the ball. That was on display last week as they used Ian Adams, Nathan Pinkava, and Lucas Thompson to score five touchdowns on 11 carries for 233 yards. They will have to rely on that trio again this week to make it six victories in a row over their rival.
The Flat Rock Rams are looking to end the Pirate’s dominance over them, and to help them do that will be Senior Quarterback Graham Junge. Junge doesn’t always get the credit he deserves, but he’s been one of the best Quarterbacks in the state during his tenure at Flat Rock. Earlier this season, he reached 6000 passing yards total and has plenty of games to add. So far this season, Junge has completed 36 passes for 637 yards and 11 touchdowns. His favorite targets are Adam and Evan Szalay, who have combined for 18 receptions, 362 yards, and eight touchdowns. While the passing game has been strong, the running game might even be stronger. They have rushed the ball 136 times for 1031 yards leading the way for the rushing attack is Jacob Hagan and Ben Scully. Scully has been the main back, leading the way with yards and touchdowns with 398 yards and four touchdowns.
Will the Pirates ransack the day, or can the Rams hold strong on home turf?
