Before our big rivalry matchup between the Carlson Marauders and the Woodhaven Warriors, let’s take a look back at the Dexter Dreadnaughts’ first league title in 59 years.
Dexter Dreadnaughts
They did it!
From 2013-2017 it was a dark time for the Dreadnaughts as they lost 42 straight games. Following that stretch, they were able to flip the script and that started with Quarterback Colin Parachek, now at Morehead State, you saw the talent that was starting to come in. The pentacle of that is this year as they are loaded with talent with the likes of Cole Cabana(Michigan), Brennan Parachek(Michigan State), and Micah Davis to win the title and will most likely make a deep run in the playoffs with their high powered offense. They just wanted it more.
Micah Davis…Underrated
Do you hear that faint chanting in the background? That’s the players, fans, and anyone else who has seen Micah Davis play chanting “Underrated”. The 6’2 185 pound Safety for Dexter is Severely underrated. Davis as of Friday, October 14, is a no-star recruit but plays at a higher level. On Friday, Davis had 12 Tackles, including one late that got his team the ball back. Davis also had a first-half interception that led to a Dexter touchdown and a pass breakup.
When talking of Dexter football this year you talk of all the big-name players and their offers Davis has an offer from Butler University and some other smaller schools. However, he does have some walk-on offers from Eastern Michigan and Michigan State, and after the win over Saline he picked up a preferred walk-on from Michigan. You will see this kid play on Saturdays next year.
Saline Hornets
5-Star Quarterback 0-Star Play Calling
The Hornets might have had the most talent on the field, but they had the worst play-calling. After the first offensive drive, there were questionable calls all game on offense from running on 3rd and longs to not letting their quarterback air it more. CJ Carr to Caid Fox was on point late, but if you wanted a play call that worked all game it was Carr to Roman Laurio. That combination saw 11 completions on the night, the most of any Hornets wide receiver.
Can They Make a Run?
The Saline Hornets reside in division 1 football for the MHSAA. The Hornets have the talent to make a run but can they? The team has been in a bit of a Jekyll and Hyde situation. Although they are 6-2, the Hornets have looked more human this year than last. A close game against Hudson(2-6) and questionable playcalling make it hard to see a deep run in the playoffs.
