Week 9 Game of the Week Preview and Picks: Friday Edition

We have reached the end of the high school football season, and we have a massive slate of six games this week, with three games on Friday night and a full day of coverage on Saturday for the Catholic High School League Prep Bowl. This article will feature all of Friday’s action.

Our season standings on the picks for those of you that are interested Bear: 11-8, Nat: 12-7, Kirby: 11-8

Allen Park vs Redford Union

The 6-2 Allen Park Jaguars will welcome the 7-1 Redford Union Panthers to the Jungle for the battle of the cats. Allen Park won this game last year by a final of 39-14. Will they make it two in a row vs. Redford Union?

The Allen Park Jaguars opened the season 6-0 but have since fallen short, going 0-2 in their last two games, so they will look to make things right a week ahead of the playoffs. For the Jaguars to get back in the win column, they will need a better game from Quarterback Ben Klos and Weston Glei. Glei has possibly had his two worst games of the season in back-to-back weeks. He has been held out of the endzone each game and combined for 100 yards. He will need to make some plays to help get the Jaguars back on track in this one.

The Panthers of Redford Union enter the Jungle of Allen Park on a seven-game winning streak. In last week’s win over Melvindale, Quarterback Julian Liddell completed 50% of his passes for 101 yards and three touchdowns on defense for the Panthers. Linebacker Cain Hester finished with ten tackles and three sacks. Both players will have to be at the top of their game to come out on top.

Can the Jaguars bounce back to defend the Jungle, or will the Panthers come in and become the new King of the Jungle?

New Boston Huron vs Detroit Henry Ford

The New Boston Huron Chiefs welcome in the Trojans of Detroit Henry Ford. The two schools met for the first time last season, and that game favored the Chiefs.

The New Boston Huron Chiefs are coming off a loss to rival Flat Rock a week ago and are looking to end the season on a high note. In this game, they will look to Quarterback Cash Moczydlowsky to continue leading the way with his six passing and four rushing touchdowns. They will also look to Senior Running Back Austin O’Dell to add to his six rushing touchdowns.

The Trojans are looking to make the playoffs for the first time since the 2020 season. Looking to help bring them back to the playoffs are Quarterback Caidyn Dent and Running Back Malik Shephard. In last week’s win over Mumford, Dent passed for 170 yards and two touchdowns on 11 of 14 passing. For Shephard, he had 120 yards and two scores on 21 rushing attempts. If they hope to make the playoffs, Dent and Shephard will need to play at their best.

Northville vs Fordson

The Northville Mustangs will host the Fordson Tractors in a classic KLAA crossover matchup on the farm.

The Northville Mustangs are coming off a win over their crosstown rival, the Novi Wildcats. In last week’s win, they had a big night from Running Back Max Defore, who rushed for 216 yards and a touchdown on 28 attempts. Quarterback Cooper Derkach also had a decent night as he completed seven of his eight passes for 62 yards and ran for 28 yards and two touchdowns on 14 attempts. They must keep it up to keep the Tractors in the barn.

The Fordson Tractors are building on what they did last year. However, they had a setback against Belleville a week ago, losing 31-0. Helping the Tractors to their great start are Khalil Bandar and Mstafa Aljanaby. While the Tractors are still without their starting Quarterback, they have put up great numbers on the ground and will be a force to reckon with.

Who will win the battle of the farm? Will the Mustangs take off for the tracks, or will the Tractors run over the competition?
