Week 9 Games of the Week Previews and Picks: Saturday Edition

We have reached the end of the high school football season, and we have a massive slate of six games this week, with three games on Friday night and a full day of coverage on Saturday for the Catholic High School League Prep Bowl. This article will feature all of Saturday’s action with all of these games being played at Ford Field

Our season standings on the picks for those of you that are interested Bear: 11-8, Nat: 12-7, Kirby: 11-8

Kalamazoo Hackett Catholic Prep vs Jackson Lumen Christi- 1:30pm

Both Lumen Christi and Kalamazoo Hackett enter this game at 7-1. This will be the fourth time the two schools have ever met, with Lumen Christi holding a 2-1 lead.

When you think of high school football in Michigan, one of the first teams you should think of is the 13-time state champion, Jackson Lumen Christi. Leading them onto the field will be Senior Quarterback Timmy Crowley. Crowley is already a two-time State Champion. The State Championship games are played at Ford Field, so this won’t be his first time on the big stage of Ford Field.

Kalamazoo Hackett Catholic is looking to continue its best season since 2021. It will look to Quarterback Jackson Herder to lead them to a Prep Bowl title. If Herder can stay calm on one of the biggest stages he has seen, Hackett Catholic will be in good hands.

Macomb Lutheran North vs Clarkston Everest Collegiate- 4:30

The Cardinal Championship will see the 7-1 Macomb Lutheran North Mustangs go against the Undefeated Clarkston Everest Mountaineers. This is also a rematch of the game from last year that saw Everest walk away with the title.

The Mustangs like to pound the rock, and they will look to keep that going. They will also look to Quarterback Cam Kubik, who had a nice flea flicker pass in the game last week that helped them win the game over Ann Arbor Gabriel Richard a week ago.

For the Mountaineers, they are looking to repeat as champs in the Catholic League, looking to help them repeat is Quarterback Oliver Neiman. Neiman has been integral to the success of the Mountaineers. However, he isn’t the only one that has played a big role in the success of the Mountaineers as Running Back Jimmy Nedwick has been big in the backfield, and he is returning to the site of his breakout game from a year ago, so it should bring back some good memories for the Senior.

Detroit Catholic Central vs Detroit Martin Luther King- Game of the Week- 7:30

In the main event of the week, the undefeated Shamrocks of Detroit Catholic Central will play the Crusaders of Detroit Martin Luther King in the final game of the 52nd Prep Bowl.

The Shamrocks have met every challenge they have faced this year and crushed them as they have outscored their opponents 309 to 84. Leading the way for the Shamrocks in the win last week were Quarterback Skyler Hunter and Wide Receiver Samson Gash. The two connected four times for 68 yards and three touchdowns in the 55-0 victory over Grand Ledge.

The Crusaders are back at Ford Field for a second straight week, as they were in the Detroit Public School League Championship against Cass Tech a week ago. While they lost that game, they are looking to change the tone this week. However, that might be tough as they will be without starting Quarterback Darryl Flemister this week. Looking to pick up the slack this week will be Running Back Michael Dukes. In the loss last week Dukes finished with seven carries for 32 yards. Filling in at the Quarterback position this week will be a combination of Deonte Ellington and Ronald Fleming. Ellington, Fleming, and Dukes will need to combine for a massive game if they want to walk away with a victory in this one.
