A day after we saw the defending state champions, we saw the Division 1 runners-up as Detroit Cass Tech hosted Michigan City (Indiana).
While it was a different game between two different teams, Cass Tech did the same thing to Michigan City that Detroit Catholic Central did to Chippewa Valley: hold the opposition scoreless.
The final in this one? 62-0.
Michigan City
Overmatched
Michigan City looked overmatched in this one from the start. They couldn’t move the ball on offense, and on defense, they couldn’t stop Cass Tech.
At one point in the game, Cass Tech had only run 14 plays on offense and had scored seven touchdowns. It just showed how far Michigan City needs to go to match up with one of the best teams in the state of Michigan, and maybe even the country.
Cass Tech
Best in Show
In the win, Cass Tech showed off its speed, size and offensive firepower. However, they didn’t need to break out the big guns in the win as the game was essentially over before it started.
The offense they showed was pretty simple, and the heavy lifting was done early as they went up 21-0 with 3:37 left to play in the first quarter.
Julian Taylor looked like a beast with his ability to run the ball, finishing with five carries for 129 yards and two touchdowns. He also made his presence felt on defense, which led to his third touchdown of the night.
While Taylor might have been the star of the night, other players also showed out.
Five-star quarterback Don Tabron II finished the night 4-for-9 for 130 yards, two touchdowns and a two-point conversion. The top two wide receivers, Peyton Robinson and Mylan Griggs, combined for four catches for 130 yards and two touchdowns.
Robinson even showed off his speed in the return game as he had a 61-yard punt return for a touchdown.
Add to all that senior leader De’Mari Hendrix getting 96 yards and two scores on five carries, and Cass Tech looks like they are already in midseason form.
Bear’s Final Take
Michigan City is happy to get out of Michigan and really happy to not have to play Cass Tech again this season.
As for Cass Tech, they looked like they had a chip on their shoulder after falling to Catholic Central last season, and that’s not good for the rest of the state.
